'Vintage' by Vinistra
“Vintage” is an exclusive event organized by the Vinistra Association, dedicated to promoting Istria’s indigenous grape varieties, Malvasia and Teran. The event showcases the knowledge, craftsmanship, and dedication of Istrian winemakers, while offering wine professionals and a limited number of guests the opportunity to taste exceptional aged wines. Our task was to develop the event name and create the complete visual identity for the project.
Today, the word “Vintage” is commonly used to describe something old, but its origins date back to the early 15th century, when it referred to the annual grape harvest. The term derives from the Latin vindemia, a compound of vinum (wine) and demere (to remove, gather, or harvest). The identity presented here was developed for red wines, alongside a parallel system created for white wines. The concept is based on splitting the word into vint – age, emphasizing the connection between wine and vintage year. The dividing line becomes a timeline that runs throughout the entire visual identity and its applications. On the cover, the line transforms into a stylized vine through the addition of leaf and grape-cluster elements, while also functioning as a timeline marked with different vintages. On the bottle holders, the same line indicates the wine’s age: the older the wine, the longer the line; the younger the wine, the shorter it becomes.
